Blizzard has just announced that several cards will be rotating to the Hearthstone Hall of Fame (Wild) in April and that we’ll be getting back the full crafting cost of each of these cards. So should you craft these cards golden to take advantage of this?

That’s an interesting question for sure and it’s a bit more complicated than “Yes, of course!” Let’s take a look at every possible situation. Keep in mind that there are 4 epic cards and 2 rare ones rotating. A rare card is 100 dust to craft and an epic 400. A golden rare is 800 dust to craft and a golden epic is 1600. You can only get dust back for 2 of each card, more copies don’t count.

I have none of these cards

That’s great! Craft the golden version of each of these cards if you can. It will cost you 8000 dust and you’ll get all of it back once the rotation happens. So:

A) You can then dust all of them for an additional 1800 dust. Profit: 1800 dust.
B) You can keep the cards and play them in Wild. Profit: 0 dust, 6 golden cards.

I have the normal version of all of these cards

You’ll get 1800 dust when the rotation hits. You can craft all of the cards golden if you want but there is no point to it unless you want to keep the cards and play them in Wild.

Reasoning: You get 1800 for the 6 non-golden variants. Crafting all golden will cost you 8000 dust and you’ll get 8000 dust back BUT you don’t get the original 1800 dust anymore because you can only get dust back for 2 of every card. Having golden and non golden copies will not give you extra dust. So:

A) You want to play the golden cards in Wild. Profit: 0 dust, 6 golden cards.
B) You want to play Wild and dust the non-golden copies as well. Profit: 440 dust.
C) You don’t care about playing Wild and craft nothing. Profit: 1800 dust.

I have some golden and some non-golden and less than 2 copies of a card

Craft the golden version of what you’re missing. You get the cost back and can choose to disenchant the cards you crafted for an extra 400 (epic) or 100 (rare) dust.

I have some golden and some non-golden cards and 2 copies of each card.

Do you want to use the rotating cards in Wild as golden cards? If yes, then craft all the cards in their golden form. If not, don’t craft anything because crafting a golden version when you already have 2 copies of a card is a 0 profit event.

Example: 1 golden, 1 non-golden epic = 2000 dust back (1600+400). You craft the second golden and spend 1600 dust. You now get 3200 dust back (1600×2) but you spent 1600, meaning you only profit 1600 dust instead of 2000 (3200-1600). You can disenchant the second golden epic and get 400 extra dust, bringing your profit back to 2000 dust (3200-1600+400). This means that crafting and dusting the golden card was pointless work.

I have the golden and normal version of all of these cards

Congrats! You’ll get 8000 dust when the rotation happens. Profit: 8000 dust. Additionally, you can disenchant the non-golden copies for a little bit extra. Profit: 8440 dust.

TL;DR: If you have at least 2 copies of every card don’t craft anything unless you want to use golden cards in Wild. If you have less than 2 copies of a card, craft the golden version.
